Steam In Home Streaming

With a beta steam client installed on the streaming host, starting the game locally and then initiating streaming from the remote end also worked. When the game started locally, Windows was un-muted. When the remote client started streaming, Steam would mute local audio (as expected and desired) but streaming audio worked. Update: The section on the pc called 'In-Home Streaming' is now called 'Remote play'. In this video I will be showing you how to stream the Steam games on yo. As a workaround until the issue is resolved, you can use an older version of streamingclient.exe and it'll work. Just replace the streamingclient.exe in your steam folder with this one, which is the one prior to the update.

A Steam client update today has changed Steam's 'In-Home Streaming' feature to 'Steam Remote Play,' allowing games to be streamed from the storefront off the home network.

Essentially, Steam In-Home Streaming has previously allowed Steam users to stream games across Steam clients on the same network - for example, a laptop could stream games from a gaming PC's Steam library if the two were on the same network.

Now, Steam Remote Play will allow Steam clients to stream games off one another from any location, 'as long as there is a good network connection on both sides and they are close to a Steam datacenter.'

Steam In Home Streaming Not Working

A Steam Link app is already available that allows streaming from a Steam client to phones, and appears to be compatible with the new separate-network feature.

This service brings Steam somewhat into line with other platforms such as Xbox, for which Microsoft revealed a feature at E3 2019 that allows streaming games from Xbox home consoles to smartphones and tablets.

Steam In-Home Streaming allows you to stream a game from one machine on a network to another. The idea being that your powerful desktop machine will run the game and stream the picture and perform input/output through a weak computer attached to a living room TV.

One of the problems it faces is wifi latency. Most homes won’t have ethernet cables built into the walls. I only know two people who are so prepared so the rest of us will have to use wifi. I’ve used power plug networking in the past but the resulting broadcast of radio signals makes me fearful for the sanity of any long wave radio fan or CB radio junkie in the locality.

The video above demonstrates a lot of latency and stuttering when Metro Last Light was played over a wifi network. However, ethernet worked fine with only slight lag. Here’s a thread on the Streaming Group forum looking for feedback and this thread that should be a good read.

Initially I was more excited about streaming than family sharing but the latter works just fine, and even works when the (slave) computer is offline (so the master computer can be used to play games too). I even went and bought a HDMI cable just so I can hook the laptop up to the tv. Much simpler than fiddling with streaming but then I might not be the target audience am I?
